Our Immediate Past President
Our Immediate Past President (2023-24), Anthony Platts, is in his early seventies. Born in Lebanon, he spent most of his childhood in boarding schools in and around Hastings and St Leonards. His father worked in the petroleum industry in Iraq and also at the British Embassy in Budapest.
In 1969 he joined what was at the time Westminster Bank, later to be Nat West. He worked in the International Banking Section, covering Foreign Exchange in the Inland Payments Department.
Anthony left Nat West in 1992 and then qualified as a driving instructor. Eventually, he progressed on to post-test driver training, in particular training corporate drivers and some who were referred for corrective training following speeding and crash incidents. He is currently an advanced driving instructor and is a member RoSPA.
His interests are ancestry, reading and walking. He also swims with the local swimming club. Recently he also took a keen interest in politics. He is fluent in French and is learning Italian.
