A Formal Garden into a Nature Reserve

Our speaker, Peter Lovett, gave a fascinating talk about the conversion of his formal garden into a nature reserve.

By encouraging wild flowers and banishing insecticides and pesticides, Peter's garden has evolved into an extraordinary nature reserve over the years. The breadth of plant, bird and insect species photographed were shown in his talk. The results were amazing. Do not use pesticides which will kill both beneficial and what some would call 'nuisance' insects. Do not tidy your garden too much as you will deprive visiting wildlife from shelter and food. Create a log pile in a quite corner of your garden for insects and hedgehogs. Go for good nectar producing flowers and herbs for our pollinators.

The main theme of Peter's message was:  how to enjoy your garden more with less effort!
